FLOWER MOUND LAWN CARE
Your Lawn Care Company in Flower Mound, Texas
Looking for a lawn care company in Flower Mound, TX? Jhernandez Lawn Service is a family-owned business proudly serving the area, run by owner Jose Hernandez. He has worked lawns across North Texas for more than 20 years and today looks after more than 100 properties.
Flower Mound is not one kind of property. A yard off Long Prairie and a two-acre place out past Chinn Chapel need different equipment, different intervals and different pricing. We quote by measured turf rather than a flat residential rate, so a big lot is not guesswork and a small one is not overcharged.
Everything is quoted in writing before we start, and there is no contract to sign. You call or text Jose directly, he prices the work himself, and he is on the properties with his own crew.

WHAT WE DO
Lawn Care Services in Flower Mound, TX
One crew for the whole property, from the weekly cut to fertilization, trimming and full landscape installs.
Lawn Mowing in Flower Mound TX
Weekly or biweekly mowing at the right height for your grass, plus weed-eating, edging along every walk and drive, and hard surfaces blown clean.
Acreage & Large Lot Mowing
Half-acre to multi-acre properties, with maintained turf and rough pasture quoted and cut separately. Fence lines and tree lines included, not skipped.
Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control
Lighter, more frequent feeding suited to sandy Cross Timbers soil that leaches nutrients, plus pre-emergent timed to soil temperature and broadleaf control.
Tree Trimming in Flower Mound TX
Shaping, deadwood, clearance and canopy thinning, kept inside routine maintenance. We know how the town treats protected trees and say so before we cut.
Landscaping in Flower Mound TX
Bed design and installation, plantings, edging, stone borders and front-yard renovations, weighted toward natives that suit sandy soil and full Texas sun.
Yard Cleanup
Spring and fall cleanups, overgrown and vacant lots, rental turnovers, bed weeding and re-edging, with everything hauled off.
Leaf Removal
One-time or season-long clearing of lawn, beds, fence lines and reachable gutters. Post oaks hold their leaves late and drop well into winter.
Sod Installation
New bermuda, St. Augustine or zoysia on graded, prepped ground, tight-seamed and rolled, with a watering schedule for the first month.
Mulch Installation
Beds weeded and re-edged, old crusted mulch broken up, then fresh hardwood, cedar or black mulch at the right depth and kept off the trunks.
Planting Services
Trees, shrubs, perennials and seasonal color, with native and Texas-adapted choices that hold up on sandy soil and in open sun.

RECURRING SERVICE
Lawn Maintenance in Flower Mound TX, Year Round
Most customers here are handing off the whole calendar rather than booking a single cut: what gets mowed and when, when the lawn gets fed, when beds get refreshed, and what happens the week a freeze or a drought stage changes the plan.
MAR – MAY
Spring
Cleanup, first cuts, spring feeding, bed re-edging and mulch. On acreage this is also when pasture areas get their first knock-down before the growth gets away from you.
JUN – SEP
Summer
Weekly mowing, sharp blades, light feeding. Sandy soil dries fast, so the cut goes high and clippings stay down to hold what moisture the lawn has.
OCT – DEC
Fall
Fall pre-emergent and winterizer, leaf removal on a repeat schedule, perennials cut back. Post oaks and blackjacks drop late, so leaf work runs longer here than east of town.
JAN – FEB
Winter
Dormant-season trimming, structural pruning, cleanups, and late-winter pre-emergent timed to soil temperature. The one application that decides your crabgrass summer.
BIG PROPERTIES
Acreage and Large Lot Mowing
Flower Mound kept more of its rural land than the cities south of it. Half-acre, one-acre and multi-acre properties are ordinary here, and plenty of crews quote them as if they were a slightly larger suburban yard. That is where the pricing goes wrong in both directions.
We walk the property and split it. Maintained turf near the house gets cut on a normal interval at a normal height. Open or rough areas get a different interval and different equipment. Fence lines, tree lines and ditches are called out on the quote rather than quietly skipped or quietly billed.
Measured, not estimated. Turf area is measured so a two-acre lot with a half acre of grass is not priced like two acres of grass.
Two intervals, one visit. The lawn can stay weekly while the back acreage goes every two or four weeks, on whatever schedule keeps it from getting ahead of us.
Edges included. Fence lines, gates, culverts and tree rings are where a big lot starts looking unkept first, and they are the first thing dropped when a crew is behind.
Trees respected. No mower scars on trunks, no repeated compaction over the same root zone, no string trimmer against bark.
TREE WORK
Tree Trimming and Tree Service in Flower Mound TX
Flower Mound takes its tree canopy seriously enough that the town publishes its own guidance on trimming and removal. Homeowners are regularly surprised to find that a tree on their own lot may be protected, and that heavy pruning can count as substantial alteration under the ordinance.
What we do routinely
Shaping and deadwood removal, raising canopies for clearance over the roof and drive, thinning to get light back down to grass, crape myrtle pruning done properly rather than topped, and hedge and shrub work.
What we flag first
Removing a protected tree, or pruning heavy enough to substantially alter a canopy. We tell you before we start and point you to the town, rather than taking the tree down and leaving you holding the paperwork.
Post oaks get special handling
Native post oaks and blackjacks are the signature tree here and the least forgiving. They decline from root disturbance, grade changes and too much summer water. Around them we keep work light and off the root zone.
General guidance only, not a legal determination. Permit requirements are set by the Town of Flower Mound and depend on species, trunk size, location and scope of work. Confirm with the town before removal.
FEEDING & WEEDS
Lawn Fertilization and Weed Control in Flower Mound TX
Sandy soil does not hold fertilizer the way clay does. A single heavy application on a Cross Timbers lawn largely washes past the root zone with the next good rain, which is why a program that works in Plano underperforms here.
RATE
Lighter, More Often
Smaller amounts on a shorter cycle keep nutrients where roots can reach them instead of sending them through sand into the subsoil.
TIMING
Soil Temperature, Not the Calendar
Pre-emergent goes down before soil temperatures reach the mid-fifties in late winter. Sandy ground warms earlier than clay, so that window opens sooner here.
WEEDS
Thin Turf Is the Real Cause
Weeds fill gaps. Spraying a thin lawn treats the symptom. Correct mowing height, correct feeding and correct water close the gaps so there is nowhere for crabgrass to start.
ACREAGE
Treat the Lawn, Not the Pasture
On a large property there is no reason to fertilize ground you only cut for tidiness. We treat maintained turf and leave rough areas out of the program, which keeps the cost sane.
LOCAL CONDITIONS
Cross Timbers Ground: Sand Over Clay
Flower Mound sits in the Eastern Cross Timbers, a band of sandy soil and native oak woodland running north to south through this part of Texas. It is a genuinely different growing environment from the Blackland clay a few miles east, and the standard North Texas lawn advice does not transfer cleanly.
The surface is sandy loam: it drains fast, warms early in spring, and lets nutrients leach through. Under it is clay. Where that sand layer is thin, water moves down quickly and then stops, so the same yard can be droughty on top and waterlogged below after a heavy storm.
What it means for the lawn: water deeper and less often rather than a light sprinkle every day, which on sand goes straight past the roots. Feed lighter and more frequently. Bermuda does well in the open sun; St. Augustine holds the shaded areas under oaks.
What it means for the trees: native post oaks and blackjack oaks grew up on soil that dries between rains and they resent being kept wet. New irrigation, a raised bed built over the roots or regular summer water at the trunk can decline a tree that stood there for decades.
WHY FLOWER MOUND HOMEOWNERS CALL US
What You Get With a Local Owner-Operator
01
One Person Accountable
Jose quotes the job, works the properties and answers the phone. No call center, no rotating subcontractor, no explaining your yard to someone new every month.
02
Priced by Measured Turf
Lot sizes here swing from compact to several acres. We measure the grass rather than guess from the street, which is the only way big-lot pricing is fair in either direction.
03
Written Prices, No Contract
Every job is priced in writing before it starts and the mowing rate holds for the season. Nothing gets added to a bill that wasn’t quoted first.
04
Everything From One Crew
Mowing, feeding, tree work, beds, sod and cleanups handled by the same people. Nobody has to coordinate three vendors to get a property looking right.

GOOD TO KNOW
Flower Mound Lawn Care Questions
Mowing is priced by measured turf area and access, not by a flat residential rate. That matters here because lot sizes swing from a compact yard off Long Prairie to two acres out past Chinn Chapel. We measure the actual grass, quote it in writing, and hold the price for the season. Tree work, landscaping, sod and cleanups are quoted by the job after a free walkthrough.
Yes. Half-acre, one-acre and multi-acre properties are ordinary in Flower Mound, and they are not just a bigger version of a suburban yard. Maintained turf near the house gets cut on a normal interval; open or rough areas get a different interval and different equipment. Fence lines, gates, culverts and tree lines are called out on the quote rather than quietly skipped. We split the property on the estimate so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Flower Mound protects its tree canopy by ordinance and the town publishes its own guidance on trimming and removal. Routine maintenance pruning generally does not require a permit. Removing a protected tree, or pruning heavily enough to count as substantial alteration, can require a permit and mitigation. We keep our trimming inside routine maintenance, and if what you are asking for looks like it needs town approval we tell you before we start rather than leaving you with the paperwork afterward.
All of Flower Mound across 75022 and 75028, including Bridlewood, Wellington, the Highlands, Timber Creek, Garden Ridge, Chinn Chapel, the Long Prairie, Morriss and Cross Timbers corridors, and the acreage properties toward the lake side. Just outside town we also serve Lewisville, Highland Village, Coppell, Grapevine, Colleyville, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Plano and Corinth.
Flower Mound sits in the Eastern Cross Timbers, and the native post oaks and blackjack oaks here evolved on sandy soil that drains fast and dries out between rains. They do not tolerate wet feet. A new irrigation system, a raised bed built up over the root zone, or regular summer watering right against the trunk can decline a post oak that stood there fine for eighty years. Around mature natives we keep grade changes off the root zone, keep irrigation heads pointed away from the trunk, and mulch rather than plant.
Mostly Eastern Cross Timbers: sandy loam on the surface over clay underneath, a different animal from the deep Blackland clay east of here. It drains faster, warms earlier and leaches nutrients more readily, so lawns do better on lighter and more frequent feeding than one heavy application. Where the sand layer is thin the clay underneath still perches water after a storm, which is why some Flower Mound yards manage to be droughty and soggy in the same season.
Five or six lighter applications across the year rather than two or three heavy ones, because sand does not hold nutrients well. Pre-emergent goes down in late winter before soil temperatures reach the mid-fifties, and sandy ground warms earlier than clay so that window opens sooner here than it does further east. On acreage we treat the maintained turf and leave rough ground out of the program.
Both, and there is no contract either way. Most customers are on weekly or biweekly lawn maintenance, but one-time yard cleanups, trimming visits, single fertilizer applications, acreage knock-downs and installs are all available on their own.
Jose Hernandez and his own crew. He quotes the work himself, is on the properties, and is who you call or text with a question. No call center, no rotating subcontractor, and no explaining your property to somebody new every month.

ABOUT FLOWER MOUND, TEXAS
The Town We Work In
Flower Mound sits in Denton County between Lewisville Lake and Grapevine Lake, across 75022 and 75028. It takes its name from a real feature: a natural mound rising above the surrounding prairie, kept as a preserved wildflower site rather than developed.
That instinct runs through the whole town. Flower Mound grew fast through the nineties and two-thousands but wrote rural preservation into how it did it, with a Cross Timbers conservation district, extensive trails and a tree ordinance the town actively publishes about. The result is a suburb where large lots, working acreage and standard subdivisions sit next to each other.
For lawn care that mix is the whole story. Two customers on the same road can need completely different service: one a weekly cut on a quarter acre, the other two acres split between maintained turf and rough ground, with a stand of protected post oaks in between.
Jose Hernandez has worked lawns across this part of North Texas for more than 20 years and now maintains over 100 properties. Two decades in, you learn which lots are sand and which turn to clay a foot down, and which oaks will not forgive a new sprinkler zone.
