LEAF REMOVAL NEAR YOU

Get Them Off Before They Mat Down

Dry leaves are a weekend of raking. Wet leaves are a different job. Once a North Texas cold front pushes rain through a yard that already has three inches down, the pile compresses into a mat that sticks to the turf, holds water against dormant grass all winter, and takes twice as long to lift. Most of the damage people blame on winter is really a leaf layer that sat too long.
Jhernandez Lawn Service handles leaf removal in Carrollton, TX and throughout the DFW metroplex for homeowners, rental property owners, HOAs and businesses. We clear the lawn, the beds, the fence lines, the corners the wind fills, the patios and the gutters we can safely reach, and we haul every bit of it off the property.
You can book a single cleanup or put the property on the season. Recurring service is what we recommend on lots with heavy tree cover: two or three lighter visits between October and February cost less than one heavy cleanup in January, and the grass is never buried in between.

WHAT EVERY VISIT INCLUDES

Complete Leaf Removal Services in Carrollton, TX

Clearing the open lawn is the easy part. The beds, corners and gutters are where the work is, and they are in the price.

One-Time Leaf Cleanup

A full clear-out in a single visit: lawn, beds, fence lines, patios and drives. Right for lighter tree cover, a property going on the market, or a yard that got away from you.

Recurring Season Service

Two or three scheduled visits from October through February so the lawn is never buried. Costs less per visit than one heavy cleanup, and the grass comes out of winter thicker.

Beds, Corners & Fence Lines

Leaves pulled out from under shrubs and off ground cover by hand, plus the fence lines, side yards, window wells and AC units where wind piles them deepest.

Gutter & Roof Valley Clearing

Ground-level gutters, downspouts and roof valleys cleared where they can be reached safely from a ladder, so the first winter rain drains instead of overflowing the fascia.

Leaf Mulching & Composting

When the layer is light, we mulch it into the turf and the nutrients stay on your lot — the cheaper option. Once leaves are deep enough to hide the grass, they come off instead.

Storm Debris & Haul-Off

Downed limbs, acorns, pecan hulls, seed pods and the mess a North Texas front leaves behind, loaded and taken off the property with the leaves.
WHAT'S DROPPING

Your Trees Decide the Schedule

Leaf season in DFW is not one event. What you have in the yard determines when the volume arrives and how many visits it takes, and mature neighborhoods in Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Coppell usually have three or four of these dropping on different schedules. Newer lots in Lewisville, Corinth and Highland Village often need only one visit until the builder trees fill out.
OCT–NOV

Pecan & Cedar Elm

First and messiest. Pecans drop leaves, twigs and hulls together, and cedar elm puts down small leaves that work their way deep into ground cover and gutters where a blower alone will not move them.
Plan on: an early visit, then a second.
NOV–DEC

Red Oak, Maple & Ash

The bulk of the season. Big leaves, heavy volume, and mostly down within a few weeks — which is why the main cleanup on most Carrollton properties lands in late November or December.
Plan on: the heaviest visit of the year.
FEB–MAR

Live Oak

The reason people think their yard is done and then it isn’t. Live oaks hold their leaves through winter and drop them as new growth pushes in late February, along with a heavy load of catkins and pollen.
Plan on: a late-winter cleanup visit.
YEAR-ROUND

Magnolia, Holly & Crape Myrtle

Evergreens shed a little all year, and magnolia leaves are stiff enough that they sit on top of turf and beds instead of breaking down. Crape myrtles add seed heads and a small leaf drop in late fall.
Plan on: handled during regular mowing.
Rain is the other variable. A dry stretch in November means we can clear a yard quickly with blowers and tarps; a wet week means the same yard has to be lifted in sections and weighs several times as much. If a front is coming and your yard is already loaded, call and we will try to get in ahead of it — clearing dry leaves is always the cheaper visit.
WHY IT MATTERS

What a Leaf Layer Does to a Lawn

Warm-season grass goes dormant in winter, not dead. It is still photosynthesizing on mild days and still storing energy in the roots for spring. Bury it under a wet mat and it does neither. Come March the covered areas green up weeks behind the rest of the yard, thin enough that weeds take the gaps before the grass can close them.
The rest of the property pays too. Wet leaves stain concrete and pavers and turn walkways slick. Piles against the foundation and in window wells hold moisture where you least want it and give rodents a place to nest. Gutters and drains packed with leaves push water back onto the fascia and down along the slab.
▸ Even, earlier green-up in spring
▸ No smothered, thinned-out patches to reseed
▸ Less winter fungus and fewer pests in the turf
▸ Gutters and drains that carry winter rain
▸ Clean, unstained walks, drives and patios
▸ Beds ready for a late-winter mulch refresh
Leaf Cleanup
HOW IT WORKS

Our Leaf Removal Process

Five steps. Most residential yards are cleared, cleaned and hauled out in a single visit.

1

Walk the Property

We look at what is on the ground, what is still in the trees, and which beds and corners need hand work. You get a written price covering clearing, cleanup and haul-off.

2

Clear the Beds First

Beds, ground cover, fence lines and corners are worked by hand and blower before the open lawn, so nothing gets blown back into ground we already cleared.

3

Clear the Lawn

Open turf blown and windrowed onto tarps, or mulched in when the layer is light enough to benefit the soil rather than smother it. Wet mats are lifted in sections.

4

Gutters & Hard Surfaces

Reachable gutters and downspouts cleared and flushed, then walks, drives, patios, porches and the street gutter blown clean so the job reads finished from the curb.

5

Haul Off & Next Visit

Everything loaded and taken away, then we tell you what is still left in your trees and roughly when the next visit should fall so you are not guessing.
LEAF SEASON

A North Texas Leaf Calendar

Leaf season here runs about five months, not five weeks, and it ends in late winter rather than fall. This is how it usually plays out in Carrollton.
EARLY FALL · OCT

The First Drop

Pecans and elms start, and it looks manageable. This is the cheapest visit of the season and the one that keeps the December cleanup from becoming a heavy job.
LATE FALL · NOV–DEC

Peak Volume

Oaks, maples and ash come down together, usually within a couple of weeks of the first hard cold front. The main cleanup on most properties happens in this window.
WINTER · JAN

Wet & Matted

What was left in December is now soaked and stuck down. It has to be lifted rather than blown, which is why waiting costs more than clearing twice would have.
LATE WINTER · FEB–MAR

Live Oak Drop

The last round, plus catkins and seed pods. Clearing it now sets the yard up for pre-emergent, a mulch refresh and spring green-up on clean ground.
If you are already on a recurring mowing schedule with us, light leaf work gets handled as part of those visits through the fall and we tell you when the volume has reached the point that a full cleanup is worth booking. Nothing gets added to your bill without being quoted first.
LEAF REMOVAL PRICING

Quoted By the Job. Cheaper If You Don't Wait.

Leaf removal is priced after we see the property. What moves the number is the size of the yard, how many trees are dropping on it, how deep the leaves already are, whether they are wet, and how much volume has to leave the property. Beds and ground cover take hand work, so heavily planted lots run higher than open turf of the same size.
Recurring service through the season costs less per visit than a single cleanup, and much less than clearing a yard in January after everything has matted down. We price it once, in writing, including the clearing, the cleanup and the haul-off.

WHAT EVERY QUOTE INCLUDES

▸ Free on-site walkthrough and written price
▸ Full lawn clearing, front and back
▸ Beds, ground cover, corners and fence lines by hand
▸ Reachable gutters and downspouts cleared
▸ Walks, drives, patios and street gutter blown clean
▸ All leaves and debris hauled off the property
Ask about a late-winter mulch refresh — the beds are already clear.

Jose and his crew did a terrific job with our yard maintenance! This is our first week with them and they did an amazing job. We have an oversized multi-level lot and they were very thorough with the mowing, weed-eating and blowing and cleaned everything up very well. So glad to have them!

GOOD TO KNOW

Leaf Removal Questions, Answered

Leaf removal is quoted by the job after we look at the property. What moves the number is the size of the yard, how many trees are dropping on it, how deep the leaves already are, whether they are wet, and how much volume has to leave the property. Beds and ground cover take hand work, so heavily planted lots run higher than open turf of the same size. Recurring service through the season costs less per visit than one heavy cleanup in January. Estimates are free and written.

Later than most people expect. Pecans and cedar elms start dropping in October, the bulk of the leaf fall lands in November and December with the first hard cold fronts, and live oaks hold their leaves until new growth pushes in late February and March. Most Carrollton properties with mature trees need two or three visits across that stretch rather than one.

We haul everything off the property as part of the job — nothing is left stacked or bagged at the curb. If your city picks up bagged yard waste and you would rather we leave bags out instead, we can do that. Just tell us which you want when we quote it.

Sometimes, and it is the cheaper option when it works. A light scattering can be mulched into the turf with a mower, which returns nutrients to the soil and costs you nothing to haul. Once the layer is thick enough to hide the grass, mulching just leaves a mat that smothers the lawn, so at that point it has to come off the property.

A heavy leaf layer blocks light and holds moisture against the turf. Warm-season grass is dormant in winter, not dead, and grass under a wet mat comes out of winter thin, patchy and weeks behind the rest of the yard, which gives weeds the opening. Wet leaves also stain concrete, make walks slick, and pack gutters and drains.

Yes. Beds, ground cover, fence lines, corners, patios and around the AC units are part of a full cleanup and get worked by hand, and we clear gutters, downspouts and roof valleys that can be reached safely from a ladder. Multi-story roofs and steep pitches belong to a roofing or gutter contractor, and we will tell you when that is the case.
